Tiruvannamalai, India
4th and 5th of December 2017

The last day of the the festival of light, the Karthikai Deepam festival, we arrived the the small southern indian town of Tiruvannamalai. a town during the festival expanse from 150 thousands citizens to around three million under a couple of days.

The site will serve us during our Architectural Design Studio at TU Wien. The topic is water and spatial design. the final presentations will be at the end of January in Wien, Austria.
The eastern tower is the largest of the towers for the temple. The surroundings are filled with sellers, TukTuks and pilgrims.
To combat mosquitos, official workers use diesel engines to smoke out the areas around town. But no regards of human presence.
The site where we will be conducting our architectural design studio. a existing site with a half finished commercial building. The temple and water tank creates a multi layered site with a lot of questions to be answered. A respect to religion, cultural and communal presence is mandatory.
The holy fire at Arunachala. A fire for the god Shiva and a ritual in the Karthikai Deepam festival.
